Team Namibia arrives on Wednesday from Commonwealth Games

Windhoek- Team Namibia, which participated in the just-concluded Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia, will be landing at the Hosea Kutako International Airport Wednesday morning. Team Namibia, which performed beyond expectation by winning two gold medals through boxer Jonas Junias Jonas and marathon runner Helalia Johannes, is expected to receive a hero’s welcome from excited fans upon their arrival at 10h40 in Windhoek. Team Namibia has only the two gold medals to show off on Wednesday, but this is still seen as a great success for the country, considering its history at the Games. What is pleasing, is the team's overall position of 19th out of 43 participating countries in the world as well its 6th position on the table of African competing countries. This shows that with hard work, organization, discipline and investments by the government and private sector alike, Namibian sports can reach great heights. Everyone is expected to be present at the airport at 9:30 for security checks, in order to be ready at 10:40 when the plane lands. Buses have been availed for the general public to show their support to the team and will depart at exactly 9:00 tomorrow morning at Katutura Youth Center. There will be a welcoming reception by the Ministry of Sports, Youth and National Service, while the national broadcaster, NBC is also planning to carry the arrival of the team live.
