Kavango West RC empowers its community

The Kavango West Regional Council has taken the initiative to empower its communities through diverse development programmes.

In an attempt to eradicate hunger and poverty in the region, the Kavango West Regional Council remains committed to enhancing the lives of its residents through various community projects.

These include crop cultivation, poultry, livestock farming, horticulture, and woodcarving. 

Katjinakatji Secondary School hostel incomplete

Learners at Katjinakatji Secondary School who walk more than 10 kilometres to and from school have to wait another year before the school hostel is completed.

The construction of the hostel has been on hold since last year.

The Kavango West Regional Council appointed two contractors to construct the boys' and girls' hostels last year.

The contracts were awarded in March last year, and the hostels were expected to be completed in April this year.

Kavango East and West regional councils satisfied with livestock marketing

The Kavango East and West regional councils are happy with the prospects of livestock marketing following the opening of the Rundu Abattoir.

The Meat Cooperation of Namibia's bid to manage the government abattoir was successful, and it is currently testing slaughter at the facility.

Meatco held a consultative meeting with the leadership of the two regions and with farmers at Rundu to hear their expectations.

Kavango East Chairperson Damian Maghambayi is happy that the long-awaited reopening of the abattoir could bring business and job opportunities for residents.

Kavango West Regional Council staff called to serve the community with dedication

Chairperson of the Kavango West Regional Council, Josef Sivaku Sikongo has called on staff members to serve the community with dedication.

Speaking at the regional council's general meeting at Nkurenkuru, Sikongo called those in public office to perform, so that residents may enjoy better service delivery.

He also called on the directorates to ensure all funds given to the region are utilized for their intended purpose and not sent back to the treasury at the end of the financial year.
