The National Assembly is considering ratifying the International Labour Organisation (ILO) Convention on Maternity Protection, which could greatly benefit working mothers and their families.

The Deputy Minister of Labour, Industrialization, and Employment Creation, Hafeni Ndemula, has urged all employers to review workers' wages annually.

Ndemula, who was speaking at the commencement of Labour Day in Swakopmund, pointed out that some employers are still paying workers below the minimum wage.

Close to 700 unemployed fishermen at Walvis Bay have secured permanent and full-time jobs at four fishing companies.

This follows an agreement signed by the Fisheries and Marine Resources Minister with the companies recently.
