Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare attended a Sunday service at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Namibia (ELCIN) in Nkurenkuru, where he received blessings and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the nation.
President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has called on Namibians to recommit themselves to the values that carried them through the darkest chapters of the country’s history as they recall the events of Cassinga today.
These are commitments to discipline, unity of purpose, resilience, and unwavering patriotism.
Even though the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology announced that there would be no government-planned events to commemorate Cassinga Day, various local businesses took to social media to pay homage to the hundreds of men, women, and children massacred on this day in 1978.
Namibians from all walks of life gathered at Okandjengedhi Swapo Party headquarters in the Oshana Region to commemorate the Cassinga massacre.
The importance of striving for peace and justice is once again brought to the forefront as Namibia commemorates Cassinga Day.
