President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah says she is satisfied with the progress made by the green schemes in Kavango East since her visit to the region in 2025. 

The president was on a two-day visit to various government-owned farms in Kavango East, which concluded on Tuesday.

Timotheus Kativa has been appointed Meatco's CEO for the new Northern Communal Areas. 
The farmers met Kativa during an engagement at Rundu on Wednesday.

"Garlic can be chopped up and then put in these containers. We invite food processors to come to Sikondo to see if we can collaborate on garlic processing. When you look at the garlic in all these retailers, it is mostly imported from South Africa. And it's such a simple crop to grow."

SIKONDO GREEN SCHEME PREPARES FOR WINTER POTATO HARVEST

The Sikondo Green Scheme in the Kavango West Region is in the final stages of preparations for its winter potato harvest.

Acting Farm Manager Maxwell Nghidinwa says, for the first time, Sikondo will be harvesting 20 hectares of potatoes, starting in June.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform plans to revive a technology centre in Rundu, after years of limited activity. The centre is expected to support agricultural mechanisation by managing and monitoring systems that benefit Green Scheme irrigation projects and subsistence farmers.

GROOTFONTEIN TO RELOCATE 65 FAMILIES

Grootfontein Municipality plans to relocate 65 families currently residing in single quarters to new social housing units. The relocation, initially scheduled for last year, was delayed due to the installation of prepaid water meters and some families lacking deeds of sale.
