First Gentleman Epaphras Ndaitwah reassured young men and boys from Kavango East that they have value and that they are not forgotten.

Young men and boys turned up in numbers at the Rundu Trade Fair Centre for an engagement titled "The plight of the boy child" with Namibia's First Gentleman.

Kavango East Regional Education Director, Christine Shilima, says the academic performance of learners in Grades 1, 2 and 3 is a cause for concern.

President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah says she is satisfied with the progress made by the green schemes in Kavango East since her visit to the region in 2025. 

The president was on a two-day visit to various government-owned farms in Kavango East, which concluded on Tuesday. 

Farmers from the Kavango East Regional Farmers Union have high expectations for Meatco's new Northern Communal Areas (NCA) CEO. 

Timotheus Kativa has been appointed Meatco's CEO for the new Northern Communal Areas. 
The farmers met Kativa during an engagement at Rundu on Wednesday.

"Garlic can be chopped up and then put in these containers. We invite food processors to come to Sikondo to see if we can collaborate on garlic processing. When you look at the garlic in all these retailers, it is mostly imported from South Africa. And it's such a simple crop to grow."

The Sikondo Green Scheme in the Kavango West Region is in the final stages of preparations for its winter potato harvest.

Acting Farm Manager Maxwell Nghidinwa says, for the first time, Sikondo will be harvesting 20 hectares of potatoes, starting in June. 

Agribank has supported two horticulture projects from the Kavango East and West regions with agricultural materials.

Today is International Nurses Day, and the Ministry of Health and Social Services in the Kavango East Region is commemorating the day with a lineup of activities. 

The day started off with a walk through Rundu’s busiest part of town. 

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform plans to revive a technology centre in Rundu, after years of limited activity. The centre is expected to support agricultural mechanisation by managing and monitoring systems that benefit Green Scheme irrigation projects and subsistence farmers.

Grootfontein Municipality plans to relocate 65 families currently residing in single quarters to new social housing units. The relocation, initially scheduled for last year, was delayed due to the installation of prepaid water meters and some families lacking deeds of sale.
