The Nambian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) wants to partner with the Dr. Alpo Mbamba Secondary School in Kavango East.

The school offers Integrated Performing Arts as a subject.

Learners  have recently started producing short films after receiving equipment from the National Arts Council of Namibia.

This is a short film produced, directed and scripted by Anna Ihemba, an IPA learner at Dr Alpo Mbamba Secondary School. What was once a subject offering dancing, singing and drama has now incorporated what the school calls a media hub.

This is where the learners are being taught to become storytellers, including all the technical aspects that come with it.

"My synopsis is all about a girl who loses a parent in a car accident; she ends up being depressed, having grief and losing hope, and the only solution that she had is to end her life. Grief is pain; losing hope is not the solution to ending your life. "You must seek help so that someone can help you," said Anna Ihemba, an IPA learner.

The school says it decided to reach out to the NBC, not only for the broadcaster's various platforms but also for its technical knowhow.

The IPA teacher, Shaumbwa Linus, says it's important for youngsters to know about the career possibilities that subjects such as IPA offer.

"We have talent here; however, NBC has the network, the infrastructure, and the expertise to help us shape these young minds into becoming the next generations' storytellers."

"This partnership, we want to nurture it, and if it works, you may just get an opportunity to get a space on television, or on social media, or on radio," reiterated NBC's Director General Menesia Muinjo.

This is the first time NBC is partnering with a school offering IPA as a subject, and the Director General says the idea is to have more young people from across the country telling their own stories.

"Ten years from now, you can already imagine where you are going to be; these are the things that inspire, and it's part of NBC's mandate, so we will continue working with students and teachers such as yourself, because this is part of our mandate, and beyond that, it's just really, really inspiring," said Miss Namibia Organisation's National Director, Beaulah Boois-Beukes.

NBC Chief of News and Programming Peter Denk highlighted, "It's really touching. As a start, this is really wonderful. Just looking at the little experience that I have, you have ticked many of the boxes that we are looking at when we look at content."
