The Standing Committee on Urban and Rural Development and Land Reform has commended the Aroab Village Council in the ||Kharas Region for establishing a reception area to address uncontrolled informal settlements in and around the town.

The Governor of ||Kharas Region, Dawid Gertze, has expressed concern over more than 30 allocated resettlement farms in the region that remain lying idle. 

The Minister of Urban and Rural Development, James Sankwasa, has once again urged all involved parties in an ongoing Witbooi clan's chieftaincy succession dispute to find common ground and work towards a lasting solution.

He made the call during a meeting with clan members in Gibeon.

For residents of Gibeon Village and nearby farms, access to medical doctors means long travel distances to the nearest hospital in Mariental, since the village is served only by a clinic staffed with nurses.
