Zambia's incumbent President, Hakainde Hichilema, has confirmed that he will retain his Vice President, Mutale Nalumango, as his running mate for the upcoming general elections in August. 

Zambia's President Hakainde Hichilema, in commemorating Africa Freedom Day, has exercised his prerogative of mercy on 1,505 inmates whose jail sentences have been pardoned.

Of the number, 708 inmates have been released, while 797 inmates had their sentences commuted to terminable sentences.

Botswana and South Africa have resolved to accelerate implementation of projects, programmes, and initiatives classified as high-impact priority projects, as they are strategic to broader regional integration.

The government of Zambia last week assured the diplomatic community that there will be business continuity before, during and after the general election.

Both the Zambian cabinet and parliament were dissolved last Friday in line with the country's constitution in readiness for the August general election. 

This is in accordance with the national constitution, which requires automatic dissolution 90 days prior to a general election.

The governments of Zambia and Israel have signed an amendment agreement relating to the restructuring of approximately $460 million in debt owed to the Middle Eastern country.

The hearing over the Pretoria High Court judgement on the repatriation of the former President Lungu's remains involving the family and Zambian government is set for May 29th.

The Pretoria High Court in South Africa has set aside its 22 April ruling on an urgent matter in which the Lungu family was granted custody of the body of the late former Zambian President Edgar Lungu.

Various activities took place in the capital, Lusaka. The day began with a five-kilometre marathon, followed by a church service.

The Zambian government and the family of former President Edgar Lungu will appear before the Pretoria High Court tomorrow to determine custody of his remains.
