Max Makushe School suspends classes over sewage problem

A contractor has blocked a sewerage pond at Max Makushe Secondary School in the Kavango East Region due to what they regard as outstanding payments by the Ministry of Education, Arts, and Culture.

The school has since suspended classes due to sewerage overflow.

The school has been struggling to get a permanent solution for the sewerage for almost five years.

The contractor, Empire Sense Investment, carried out what is referred to as emergency work for N$2 million.

The tender was awarded in November 2021.

Local company restores borehole at Dr. Fischer Primary School for education and sustainability

A local company, South Haven Commodities, has stepped up to rehabilitate the borehole of Dr. Fischer Primary School in the Aminuis Constituency which has been dysfunctional since last year.

The company's director, Tjakazenga Kamuhanga, says education is one of the sectors that requires collective action from all stakeholders.

Education Inspector Ismael Kazondanga said the rehabilitation of the borehole will enable the school to engage in agriculture-related activities that will assist the school in raising funds for its upkeep. 

Roof damage disrupts learning at Ekango-Linene Combined School

Strong winds blew off the roofs of three blocks at Ekango-Linene Combined School in Etayi Circuit, Omusati Region.

The damage occurred to the block that accommodates approximately 100 Grade 3 learners.

The block's walls were damaged, and classes were under water, causing further damage to classroom displays on the notice boards and posing a setback to teaching and learning for both teachers and learners at the school.

The damage to the block is estimated to be around N$7,000.

The school principal, Dasken Mushabati, says the storm also uprooted trees.
