Namibia has officially submitted a letter of acceptance to join the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI), a global initiative promoting climate-resilient infrastructure.

The Deputy Executive Director at the Ministry of Works and Transport, Jonas Sheelongo, said that early warnings regarding possible catastrophic disasters related to climate change have become an urgent necessity, as the African Union launched the Space for Early Warning program in Windhoek.

In response to rising flood risks, the Cabinet has issued directives to various ministries and regional councils aimed at managing the situation and ensuring public safety.

The Ministry of Urban and Rural Development organised emergency simulation exercises as part of the ongoing emergency reduction strategy to test the capacity of the local authorities for mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery from disasters.
