Health and Social Services Minister Dr. Esperance Luvindao confirmed a second case of Mpox at Swakopmund. 

Zambia has confirmed five new cases of Mpox in the last week, bringing the total cumulative cases to 1,733 since the disease outbreak began in October last year. Despite the high number of cases, the Zambia National Public Health Institute reports that the death toll remains at three.

The independent Patriots for Change (IPC) MP Lilani Brinkman raised questions regarding the government's preparedness following the outbreak of MPox in neighbouring Zambia.

The Health Directorate in the Zambezi Region is on high alert following reports of Mpox and cholera in neighbouring Zambia. 

Its director, Woita Kapumburu, said authorities in the region have already assembled a team of experts to continuously monitor the situation at all entry points.

Zambia has cumulatively recorded a total of 1,299 suspected MPOX cases and three recorded deaths.

Currently, 25 of those cases are home-managed.

Zambia has recorded the first case of MPOX from a Tanzanian national in Chitambo district, Central Province.

Health Minister Elijah Muchima said a 32-year-old man was diagnosed with the viral disease after presenting symptoms at Mukando Health Post.

The Walvis Bay Corridor Group is urging truck drivers, transporters, freight forwarders, and all other stakeholders to be on high alert and extremely cautious of Mpox while also adhering to the prescribed safety protocol.
