The Editors Forum of Namibia's Chairperson, Toivo Ndjebela, has emphasised the importance of accountability and inclusive engagement within the media sector.
He highlighted the long-standing challenge of handling complaints involving media entities that are not part of the EFN.
Namibia has condemned the targeted Israeli attack that killed six journalists in Gaza, including four from Al Jazeera, among them correspondent Anas al-Sharif, in an airstrike on Sunday, 10 August 2025.
More than 120 journalists, media workers, and communicators from around the world formed an alliance to report on issues affecting the Global South.
The 1991 Windhoek Declaration has been officially added to UNESCO’s Memory of the World Register.
The announcement was made during World Press Freedom Day events in Brussels.
Tomorrow, 7 May, during the signature celebration of World Press Freedom Day, the 1991 Windhoek Declaration will be inscribed in the Memory of the World.
This event will take place in Brussels in Belgium, the host of the World Press Freedom Day celebrations.
"The 8th Administration will work to ensure the safeguarding of press freedom in Namibia. The rights of media practitioners will always be protected in the execution of their duties."
In light of Namibia's recent decline to second place in Africa for press freedom and the upcoming elections, the Ministry of Information, Communications, and Technology has taken action by signing the gazetting of the Access to Information Regulations for publication in the government gazette.
