A procession carrying the remains of liberation stalwarts who were reburied at the Heroes' Acre today passed through parts of Windhoek ahead of the official reburial ceremony.

After more than five decades, Namibia has laid to rest two liberation heroes who died in captivity on Robben Island, while honouring six others whose remains and legacies have now been brought together at Heroes' Acre.

This year's Heroes Day commemoration, 26 August, will take place at the Heroes' Acre in the Khomas Region.

Information and Communication Technology Minister Emma Theofelus made the announcement during a Government Information Centre update from Outapi in the Omusati Region.

The Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (MICT) is requesting that the general public share all material produced with regards to the passing and honouring of Founding President Sam Nujoma, including condolences.

A burial at Heroes' Acre, the country's official national shrine, is reserved for individuals who have been formally recognised as national heroes by the government.

The public is urged not to take close-up pictures of the coffin of Namibia's Founding President, Sam Nujoma, during his state funeral proceedings.
