Botswana has emulated Namibia by suspending three fuel levies for six months to cushion consumers from the rising global oil prices.

The Electricity Control Board (ECB) is in the final stages of developing guidelines aimed at improving how power networks are designed across the country.

Through the proposed guidelines, Namibia's electricity sector is moving toward more locally tailored planning standards.

The newly appointed Chairperson of the Regional Energy Regulators Association of Southern Africa (REFA) has noted that despite the region's vast energy potential, millions still face energy poverty. 

Dr. Paulo de Graça made the remark at a RERA media briefing held in Windhoek on Monday.

The Electricity Control Board (ECB) says it is laying a foundation for the establishment of the Namibia Energy Regulatory Authority (NERA), as the country shifts toward a broader, multi-energy regulatory framework.
