Namibians are taking on billions of dollars in loans just to survive, prompting Parliament to scrutinise whether existing laws adequately protect customers from exploitative lending practices.

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Economy and Industry, Public Administration and Planning has conducted a public hearing on household debts and lending practices in ||Kharas Region. 

The public hearing was held at Keetmanshoop. 

Residents of the remote Gainatseb in the Kamanjab Constituency, who often have to travel long distances to access basic government and financial services, received much-needed assistance during a recent two-day stakeholder engagement.
