Namibians are taking on billions of dollars in loans just to survive, prompting Parliament to scrutinise whether existing laws adequately protect customers from exploitative lending practices.

The Kavango West Regional Council has submitted its seven years' outstanding financial statement, a day before the public hearing regarding the Council's non-submission of its annual financial statement.

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Economy and Industry, Public Administration and Planning has conducted a public hearing on household debts and lending practices in ||Kharas Region. 

The public hearing was held at Keetmanshoop. 

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Transport Infrastructure and Housing has called for collective responsibility in reducing the rising accidents on the country's roads.

The committee chairperson, MP George !Garab, made the call during a public hearing that deliberated the motion on road accidents.
