Female police officers making strides in ensuring safety, security through Operation Basadi

Female police officers will continue to make strides in ensuring safety and security as they embark upon Operation Basadi.

The officers marched in Windhoek to create awareness and commemorate the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.

Basadi, meaning "women" in Setswana, is a SADC-wide law enforcement operation that the female members of the Namibian Police Force engage in.

NBC's Hartklop FM partners with CAN to raise cancer awareness

The Namibian Broadcasting Corporation's Afrikaans radio station, Hartklop FM, has partnered with the Cancer Association of Namibia (CAN) to help raise awareness about cancer.

Breast cancer remains the most prevalent type of cancer in Namibia, with more than 3,700 cases reported in the last decade.

Women aged 55 to 60 are mostly affected, although young women are also getting diagnosed with breast or cervical cancer.
 
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an annual campaign to raise awareness about the impact of breast cancer.

Swakopmund residents participate in a walk-and-run event to heighten mental health awareness

Some residents of Swakopmund took part in a walk-and-run event to heighten awareness of mental health and associated illnesses.

This year, mental health awareness is done under the theme "Making Mental Health and Well-Being for All a Global Priority." 

October has been declared as Mental Health Awareness Month, aimed at educating and raising awareness about mental health and reducing stigma and discrimination towards people with mental issues.

UNAM social work students organise drug awareness campaign

In an effort to combat the abuse of alcohol and drugs, the University of Namibia's social work students organised an awareness campaign in Katutura.

Concerns about an increasing number of drug lords and rampant abuse of illegal substances have been reported in the area, and the students, as part of their assessment, organised an awareness campaign with spiritual leaders and former alcohol and drug users to motivate and encourage young people.
