Babylon residents unhappy about the decision by City of Windhoek to divide plots

Residents of the Babylon informal settlement in the Tobias Hainyeko Constituency have voiced their concerns regarding a decision by the City of Windhoek to divide plots where they currently reside to accommodate more informal settlers.

Some are feeling aggrieved, as they believe that the plots they are being allocated are too small to accommodate their large families.

Angry residents have reached out to the nbc News team to express their concerns regarding the actions taken by the City of Windhoek.

Government ministries and private companies called to develop their plots in Nkurenkuru

Former President Hifikepunye Pohamba is calling on government ministries and private companies to develop the plots they've secured from the Nkurenkuru Town Council.

Pohamba says Nkurenkuru is strategically located for success in various business sectors, including agriculture, manufacturing, and tourism, among others.

The former president is the patron of the Nkurenkuru Expo, and his speech was read on his behalf at a dinner aimed at raising funds for the expo, slated for next month.

Landless residents at Walvis Bay express frustration

Another group of landless residents at Walvis Bay have expressed frustration to the council over the slow pace of delivering serviced plots to them.

The group called "Tulipamwe" marched to the municipality and handed over a petition demanding council to give residents plots at Farm 37, an area about 10 kilometers from the town. 

Members of the Tulipamwe group say they are low-income earners who rent backyard shacks in the harbor town.

Mixed emotions in Walvis Bay Council on relocation of people to farm 37

Farm 37 has divided the Walvis Bay Council, with Swapo councillors slamming the decision to relocate people to the area, which has limited services installed.

Seven of the nine councillors present at a council meeting on Thursday voted in favour of moving residents to Farm 37, a location identified to decongest Walvis Bay. 

Last month, the mayor said the Council is ready to relocate the first 50 people to Farm 37, on the outskirts of Walvis Bay. 

Endobo evictees call on Tsumeb Municipality on way forward

Endobo evictees who have been camping outside the compound since September 2022, are calling on the municipality to address them on the way forward.

Occupants of about 72 households were evicted from Endobo last year and 47 received plots from Tsumeb Municipality.

Currently, there are 37 families still outside Endobo, a place they have now named Osire Number 2.

Over the seven months that they settled outside the compound, the evictees say they endured heavy rains and were subjected to insect bites because they are close to a bushy area and a riverbed.

Close to 700 plots to be ready for occupation at Farm 37 outside Walvis Bay by early 2023

In six months' time, close to 700 plots will be ready for occupation at Farm 37 on the outskirts of Walvis Bay, Erongo Region.

The Mayor of Walvis Bay, Trevino Forbes, and other local authority councillors held community meetings to update residents about ongoing projects.

Farm 37, on the outskirts of the harbour town, was identified in 2015 as an area to accommodate all landless residents.
