Rundu Town Council to repair roads

Mayor Gabriel Kanyanga says the pothole-filled roads at Rundu will soon be a thing of the past, as they are in the process of awarding a tender to repair them.

Kanyanga said this during a ceremony where he was re-elected as the town's first citizen.

Mayor Kanyanga assured the town's residents that the Rundu Town Council has heard their cries and will continue working on improving the road infrastructure.

Rundu Mayor ready to end shareholding in Northern Electricity Distributor Company

Rundu Mayor Gabriel Kanyanga has reiterated his council's desire to exit from its shareholding in the Northern Electricity Distributor company - NORED. 

Kanyanga sighted poor service delivery to the town, among other reasons. 

The Rundu Town Council, Kanyanga says, has already looked at the Oshakati Premier Electric company model and means to replicate that.

At least eight regional councils from Kunene to Zambezi and towns and village councils in these regions make up the shareholding in NORED. 

Gabriel Kanyanga re-elected as mayor of Rundu for the second term

Gabriel Kanyanga was re-elected unopposed as mayor of Rundu for the second term.

Four of the seven councilors in the town council are from the Swapo Party.

Kanyanga said he accepts the challenge to lead the council with humility.

He called on the councilors to work together for the good of the town and its residents.

He also urged residents to pay their municipal bills so that the council could provide effective service delivery.

Rundu Council backtracked to terminate its debt collection with RedForce

The Rundu Town Council has backtracked on its intention to terminate its three-year debt collection agreement with RedForce Debt Management Services. 

Rundu Mayor Gabriel Kanyanga was quoted in a local daily newspaper early this month saying the council had resolved to terminate the agreement. 

Kanyanga had cited a breach of the agreement by RedForce, on the advice of the Attorney General, as it failed to meet its five-million-dollar monthly collection target. 

Rundu Town Council expresses desires to exit partnership with NORED

The Rundu Town Council has expressed its desire to exit its partnership with the Northern Regional Electricity Distributor.

At a stakeholders' consultation meeting with the Electricity Control Board, Mayor Gabriel Kanyanga said NORED's services to the town were poor.

The Rundu Mayor said the council might not renew its agreement with the electricity distributor when the current one expires in three years' time.

Rundu, he says, has, among other signs of decline, become a dark town, despite NORED's mandate as responsible for the maintenance of street lights.
