The SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation has resolved to initiate dialogue amongst the member states of different Regional Economic Communities that have deployed forces in the DRC.

The move is one of the outcomes of the two-day Extra-Ordinary Organ Troika Summit of Heads of State and Government, held in Windhoek.

The dialogue among the Regional Economic Communities is being pursued with a view to establishing and implementing mechanisms for the effective coordination of their interventions in the DRC.

SADC Parliamentary Forum focuses on fostering administrative efficiency

Fostering administrative efficiency. This is the discussion currently underway at the SADC Parliamentary Forum meeting, underway in Windhoek.

The two-day forum will also focus on the orientation of new executive committee members and the inauguration of a board.

The orientation was necessitated by the election of a new president for the forum - Speaker of the National Assembly of Seychelles, Roger Mancienne.

Namibia will host the Extraordinary SADC Organ Troika Summit early next week.

The discussions will center around issues relating to politics and the security situation in the region.

The gathering will start with a meeting of senior government officials, to be followed by ministers.

The Extra-Ordinary SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government is expected to be held on Tuesday.

The Organs' Incoming Chairperson and Outgoing Chairperson are expected to present their reports at the summit.

SADC urges Kingdom of Eswatini to investigate assassination of human rights lawyer Thulani Rudolf Maseko

SADC has called on the Kingdom of Eswatini to swiftly, transparently and comprehensively investigate the killing of human rights lawyer and political activist, Thulani Rudolf Maseko.

Maseko was gunned down outside his home in Eswatini's capital, Mbabane on Saturday.

Maseko, at the time of his death, served as chairperson of the multi-stakeholder Forum which was established as a coalition of non-State actors advocating for a process of national political dialogue.

Namibia Film Commission introduces bursaries for film-making students

For the first time since its establishment, the Namibia Film Commission (NFC) will be offering bursaries to students wishing to pursue a career in filmmaking at any reputable institution in SADC.

For the past four years, the NFC has only funded third-year TV production students from the College of the Arts.

However, this year things are different, and local students can now choose to study courses including but not limited to pre-production, production, and post-production at any reliable institution in Southern Africa.

SADC reiterates commitment to opposing political instability, social & economic threats to member states

SADC has reiterated its commitment to fighting political instability and the social and economic threats faced by some member states.

This was said by the Chairperson of the SADC Ministerial Committee of the Organ, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, at the meeting of the Ministerial Committee of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defense, and Security Cooperation.

Nandi-Ndaitwah cited as an example the instability in the eastern part of the DRC that has claimed hundreds of lives and displaced thousands.

Another concern is the terrorist attacks in Cabo Delgado Province, Mozambique.

President Geingob leaves for Eswatini on a one-day working visit as SADC Chairperson

President Geingob will travel to Eswatini tomorrow for a one-day working visit as chairperson of the SADC Organ.

Dr. Geringob is expected to hold consultations with King Mswati III about the political situation in the country.

The visit is part of the SADC Summit resolution held in the DRC in August, for the organ to work towards peace and stability in the region.
