Namibians urged to turn up for Africa Public Service Day

Zambezi Governor Alufea Sampofu is calling on Namibians to turn out in large numbers as the country joins the rest of the continent in commemorating Africa Public Service Day at Katima Mulilo.

All roads lead to Katima Mulilo for Public servants in government and private sectors to commemorate Africa Public Service Day, as adopted by Namibia in 2007 after many African countries' Ministers of Labour and Human Resources declared the 23rd of June in 1994 in Morocco.

Demonstrators in the Zambezi Region carried placards with various messages denouncing same-sex marriages and expressing their opposition to abortion.

The messages on the placards included statements such as "No to same-sex marriage in Namibia" and "We say no to homosexuality."

There is a need to develop innovative ways to address the issues of human-wildlife conflict (HWC).

These were the sentiments of Zambezi Region Governor, Alufea Sampofu, during an interview with nbc News at the National Human-Wildlife Conflict.

Zambezi is one of the regions where residents are terrorised by wild animals that destroy their crop fields.

Sampofu is also concerned about the compensation paid to victims of HWC, saying it leaves much to be desired.

Zambezi Education Directorate launches customer service charter

The Zambezi Education Directorate hopes to improve access to services through its just-launched customer service charter.

The charters follow a directive by the Office of the Prime Minister last year for all ministries to establish functional customer charters.

The Kalimbeza Rice Project in the Zambezi Region remains dormant due to a lack of funds.

This is despite the project having been bailed out in 2020 when the Ministry of Agriculture spent N$7.1 million to keep it running.

Kalimbeza, the only Green Scheme project in Zambezi was envisaged to be the major rice producer in the region if not in the whole country.

After AGIBUSDEV allegedly failed to manage the project, forcing the government to take over the Green Scheme that was supposed to have happened before the end of 2022.

Security cluster in Zambezi to maintain law and order this festive season

The security cluster in the Zambezi Region has embarked on a joint operation for the festive season to maintain law and order in the region.

The operation is an initiative of the office of the Governor, Alufea Sampofu.
  
The joint operation will focus on reducing road accidents as well as the movement of cargo.
  
Parties to the joint operation are the Police, NDF, Police Special Reserve, Immigration and Customs, Fisheries, and Roads Authorities.

ZVTC holds innovation and entrepreneurship day

The Zambezi Vocational Training Centre held an innovation and entrepreneurship day to give trainees an opportunity to showcase skills in their respective trades.

The event, which was held at the Katima Mulilo open market, showcased various items made by students from all fields of studies.

Speaking at the open day, the Zambezi Governor, Alufea Sampofu, encouraged tertiary applicants to consider vocational training as an important step towards self-employment and national development.

Not many security threats experienced along Namibia's borders- Sampofu

According to Zambezi Governor Alufea Sampofu, not many security threats have been experienced along Namibia's borders in the region since last month, although stock theft is increasing from Namibia to Zambia.

The issue of illegal fishing on Lake Lyambezi is also escalating, and Sampofu says the region's residents are the culprits who employ foreigners to fish for them.

Over 300 students graduate from ZVTC

Over 300 students received their certificates at the Zambezi Vocational Training Centre graduation ceremony.

Speaking at the ceremony on behalf of the Minister of Higher Education, Training and Innovation, Zambezi Governor Alufea Sampofu encouraged more people to consider vocational training and to stop looking at it as an inferior choice.
