The ||Kharas Region has recorded a 37% decrease in crime since the start of the festive season.

Police Regional Commander, Commissioner Marius Katamila, attributed the crime reduction to police visibility, quick response time, and public collaboration.

Three hundred and 78 crimes were reported this year, compared to six hundred during the same period last year.

Only nine housebreaking cases were reported, which is less than the thirty-nine reported the previous year.

There were only two murder cases reported throughout the region.

Police at Keetmanshoop have arrested 12 suspected members of the notorious 'Host' gang that has been terrorizing the community there.

The ||Kharas Police Commander, Commissioner Marius Katamila, confirmed the arrests of the suspected gang members, aged between 17 and 23.

They are linked to robberies at knifepoint in the southern town.

Just over the weekend, nine criminal cases were registered against the suspects at the Keetmanshoop Police Station.

The Inspector General of the Namibian Police, Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo, has warned police officers that they would either be demoted or fired if they underperform in combating crime or put the good name of NamPol into disrepute.
