The mayor of Ongwediva, Naemi Amuthenu, has been elected president of the Association of Local Authorities in Namibia, deputised by Gobabis mayor, Elvin Gariseb.

The election took place at the association's congress held at Walvis Bay.

The President of the Association for Local Authorities in Namibia has called on the local authorities to focus on housing delivery instead of focusing on making massive profits from such services.

The Association of Local Authorities in Namibia (ALAN) appealed to local authority councilors to avoid actions that would deprive residents of services.

The call comes after reports of councillors boycotting crucial decision-making meetings.
