Ikaba area farmers suffer great cattle loss

Farmers in Kabbe South in the Zambezi Region have suffered massive stock losses due to pasteurella, a respiratory disease.

Framers, particularly those from the Ikaba area of Zambezi Region, feel let down by the Directorate of Veterinary Services.

Farmers lost close to 260 cattle to pastereulla in recent times.

During a field trip to Ikaba, farmers we spoke to said they were left hopeless due to the outbreak.

Six cattle die mysteriously at Nyege Village

Six cattle died under mysterious circumstances at Nyege Village in Kavango West's Mpungu Constituency.

Veterinary officials are now investigating what could have caused the deaths in about an hour.

The samples were taken for laboratory tests to determine or rule out the possibility of a contagious animal disease.

The owner of the cattle, Festus Hamatwi, says the livestock never showed any clinical symptoms when they were brought back from pastures.

Hamatwi says a commotion at the crawl erupted after they saw cattle falling over, one after the other.

Farmers cautioned to respect privacy of guests at King Nehale Lodge

The Oshikoto Police Regional Commander, Commissioner Theopolina Kalompo-Nashikaku, has cautioned farmers who have moved their cattle for grazing purposes to Okashana to respect the privacy of guests at the King Nehale Lodge.

Okashana is part of the King Nehale Conservancy area.

Kalompo-Nashikaku says there has been a notable influx of cattle and people to the area due to a lack of sufficient rainfall.

Kongola resident losses 17 heads of cattle after a lightning struck

A resident of Kongola in the Zambezi Region Lucas Kulandata has lost 17 heads of cattle after they were struck by lightning.

Kulandata said when the clouds were forming, he sensed danger.

After it finished raining, and Kulandata said he called the cattle herder to fill him in on what might have transpired in the forest.

The news was however disappointing because 17 of his 95 cattle were struck by lightning.

The 21-year-old cattle herder was also hit and was rushed to the clinic for pain in one of his legs.

Kulandata said he suffered a huge loss.

Meatco to construct auction kraal at Eiseb 10

Meatco will construct an auction kraal at Eiseb 10 for farmers in the area.

This was revealed by the company's Chief Executive Officer, Mwilima Mushokobanji, who is on a familiarization visit to Eiseb Block and Gam areas to meet with farmers.

The auction kraal, worth N$900,000, is expected to be completed in two months.

Eiseb and Gam have the best quality livestock, according to Mushokobanji, with international market potential.

He stated that farmers should no longer travel long distances to sell their cattle.

Lightning strike ten cattle at Shaditata Village

Lightning struck ten cattle at Shaditata Village in the Mukwe Constituency of the Kavango East Region.

It started raining heavily on Saturday evening, while the Muhora family was preparing to plow the next day.

When lightning struck, the family says they witnessed a bright light from the hut where they were sitting.

Venturing outside to inspect what had happened, Mukoya Muhora says they initially thought the lightning had hit a tree.

That was until they came upon eight cattle lying dead in the kraal, while two more lay dead under a nearby tree.
