AgriBank has announced that the recent launch of the biomass financing scheme is now available to the public. Farmers in the business of charcoal production and processing can apply for the biomass value chain loan, Agribank says, adding that one of the strategic objectives of the scheme is to diversify its loan book. People who qualify under this scheme are owners of farms, or those leasing a farm to harvest biomass to produce charcoal. Entrepreneurs, who buy charcoal to process and pack the charcoal for the end-user. Applicants are required to have permits from the Ministry of Environment, Tourism and Forestry in order to harvest the biomass for charcoal. The facility, among others, offers loans for working capital, including rations for the workers, tractors and tailors, storage sheds, debushing equipment and workers housing, including clean water and sanitation.
