Finance Minister Iipumbu Shiimi say Air Namibia liquidators have so far only managed to collect about N$60 million. He explained that this money will be used to pay creditors. Answering opposition MP Johan van Wyk in the National Assembly on the state of Air Namibia, Shiimi said this is the only money collected and more are still expected. Shiimi told the house that the issue and administration of Air Namibia is out of government control and in full management of liquidators. He further denied allegations he and his ministry are refusing to meet with ex-employees of the former national airliner stating that numerous consultations with the affected workers took place. Shiimi also informed the MPs that the government has fulfilled its commitment to the ex-workers by paying them an ex-gracia, which has not been done for other employees who lost their work due to retrenchment or liquidation. The finance minister further stated that the government's focus is not in a favourable state to continue paying these workers until the liquidation process is finalised.
