Ambassador Daniel Smith, who served Namibia in various capacities has died on Sunday. Ambassador Smith, a veteran of the liberation struggle, started his career at State House under the Founding President Sam Nujoma. After a long and illustrious career at State House, he was posted to Austria as Charge De'Affiars in 2003. He served in this capacity for two years after he was made a full ambassador and dispatched to Nigeria in 2006. In Nigeria, he served his full four-year term that ended in 2010. He proceeded to Sweden in the same capacity as an ambassador where he retired in 2013. After his retirement, Ambassador Smith was living in Swakopmund with his family. He died on Sunday in a Windhoek hospital. Funeral arrangements will still be announced.
