President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah paid tribute to late businessman and liberation veteran Eliaser Haimbili during his memorial at Epoli Village, Ohangwena.

Known as Kashela, Haimbili was the first black person to own a successful business in Ohangwena post-independence, and provided safe passage for liberation fighters crossing into Angola.

“Kashela belonged to a generation that gave their homes, livelihoods, and safety for Namibia’s liberation,” the president said.

Vice President Lucia Witbooi and former President Pohamba praised Haimbili’s rare character and contributions.

Survived by his wife Linea and 37 children, Haimbili was remembered as approachable, firm, and a mentor to young entrepreneurs.
