BOTSWANA DECLARES MOURNING PERIOD IN HONOUR OF MOGAE

Botswana's President Duma Boko has announced a three-day mourning period following the death of the country's third President, Festus Mogae. 

Mogae died in his residency in Gaborone yesterday.

The former Otjiwarongo mayor, Gottlieb Shivute, said the late James Uerikua played a significant role in grooming, mentoring and shaping him into leadership.

Shivute said all he is left with now are photographs of a man with whom he shared both a political working relationship and a personal friendship.

Members of Parliament paid tribute to the late Swapo MP James Uerikua during a candlelight ceremony and prayer session in the Parliament courtyard this afternoon.

The event honoured Uerikua, who died last week in a fatal car accident that also claimed the life of his 14-year-old son, Venturo.
