"Some of us look great because we are standing on the shoulders of giants".
These were the words of nbc Director General Stanley Similo during an interview focused on the broadcaster's extensive coverage of the Founding President's final farewell.
Chairman of the Board Lazarus Jacobs also reflected on the national broadcaster's coverage, acknowledging both achievements and areas for improvement.
Similo noted that the nbc took significant steps to ensure that every aspect of the farewell proceedings was covered, addressing some of the technical challenges encountered in past national events.
He pointed out a major improvement as the inclusion of regional broadcasts.
Speaking on the efforts made by the national broadcaster's staff, Similo expressed appreciation for their dedication and professionalism, emphasising that their work ensured comprehensive coverage of the historic event.
"People like you, Ricardo, the nbc staff. It does not get better than that; it does not get better than what the nbc can do. Some of us look great because we are standing on the shoulders of giants, and for that, I think I should be the first one to say thank you very much, and I can take pride in being part of this 100 percent Namibian production. People were asking, Have you brought in extra people? I said no. I mean, the experience we have here is massive and well over 1,000 years, so we are as ready as we can be. We've been ready, and as we sit now, the teams have been up since 5 in the morning to make sure that the broadcast of today, in particular, is as great as it is."
Chairman of the board Lazarus Jacobs reflected on the national broadcaster's extensive coverage, including on social media platforms.
"The beautiful thing is when the DG becomes the key person, he says, and this is very important for a Namibian Broadcasting Corporation to have a leader who also understands broadcasting. This is because broadcasting is a technology, and if you have a leader who does not understand broadcasting, you can forget about managing an organisation such as this successfully. So what happens is that when we are told there is a state funeral, we need to deploy; viewers will be on TV, TikTok, like you said, YouTube, and we are on Facebook and Instagram. Now you are segmenting your market: Who is listening to what? Who is watching what? Who is going to monitor the comments? If you see NSA stats, you would see that Namibia is becoming a younger nation."
The two leaders assured that the nbc is committed to refining its operations to overcome challenges and enhance its service delivery.
