Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare said that veterans of the liberation struggle and other deserving Namibians are accorded state or official funerals in accordance with the criteria set out in the Veterans Act.

Dr. Ngurare, however, clarified that not all veterans receive official or state funerals.

The Minister of Defence and Veterans Affairs, Frans Kapofi, has warned against incompetence among members of the force, while reaffirming the need to modernise defence capabilities and strengthen civil-military coordination.

The Association of the Dependents of Namibia's Veterans (AODNDV) is calling on the Ministry of Defence and Veterans Affairs to respond to a petition they submitted on August 29th of this year.

Despite having participated in political activities during the liberation struggle, his applications to be recognised as a war veteran have been denied since 2008.

The Ministry of Defence and Veterans' Affairs offers a number of benefits to veterans of the liberation struggle. 

These range from counselling services to financial assistance and the provision of housing.
