Churches should continue to be a separate entity from government

The President of the Association of Charismatic and Pentecostal Churches-ACPA says churches should continue to be a separate entity from government. Apostle Fred Gawaseb says a government controlled church will hinder Christians in worshiping God freely. Earlier this month, a motion to introduce government regulations was discussed in the National Assembly to protect Namibians from falling prey to some Christian leaders as people are losing their homes and money. Apostle Gawaseb says he understands that some people are using the Christian faith to rob people of their money and to mislead the nation to their own benefit. He however feels that an independent church is important for Christian faith and should be maintained at all cost. However, church organisations have proposed regulations to government which would allow the church to self-regulate as churches need the Association of Charismatic and Pentecostal Churches or the Council of Churches in Namibia to be registered as a Christian organisation. Proposals also include the setting up of a national registration body for churches, while calling on the police to screen all foreign pastors before allowing them to set up churches.
