Collision claims one life, leaves seven hospitalised at Okahandja

An adult male died instantly Sunday night after the Isuzu pick-up he was driving collided with a Toyota Prado on the Okahandja-Otjiwarongo B1 Road. Spokesperson of the Namibian Police Force (NAMPOL) in the Otjozondjupa Region, Inspector Maureen Mbeha in an interview with NAMPA on Monday said the accident occurred north of Okahandja around 19h20. Mbeha said the pick-up was travelling from the direction of Otjiwarongo towards Okahandja with four occupants, including the driver. Approximately 20 kilometres to Okahandja, the Isuzu allegedly tried to overtake another vehicle in front of it and collided head-on with the Prado. The Prado had four occupants, including its male driver. “The Isuzu driver died on the spot, while seven others from both vehicles sustained serious injuries,” said Mbeha. Three female occupants in the Isuzu aged nine, 18, and 36, and the 56-year-old driver of the Prado along with his three male passengers aged 20, 23 and 33, were taken to the Okahandja State Hospital. A culpable homicide case was registered at the Okahandja Police Station in connection with the accident. Police investigations continue. NAMPA
