Community members in Karasburg in the //Kharas Region have accused authorities of inaction, following the positive COVID-19 test of a teacher at the town. The teacher was taken into quarantine earlier this week. However, other teachers complained that over the weekend, schools at the town had a fun day of sports activities where the said teacher allegedly interacted with other learners and teachers. The teacher who tested positive also shares a flat with two other teachers. Another teacher who spoke on condition of anonymity said learners from the three schools at the town share a school hostel, and that there are fears since teaching and learning have resumed at the town. The teacher also said that the second positive COVID-19 test is the girlfriend of the teacher who tested positive, who also interacted with many people in the community. "I fear for my learners, there was a sports fun day this weekend and everyone interacted with each other, our fears aren't a stretch, it is genuine", said the teacher. Meanwhile, community members say that another COVID-19 contact at the town who was taken into isolation is also a teacher who teaches primary school, and is the girlfriend of the teacher who tested positive. "These are children's lives we are playing with," said another teacher. The town also has a second COVID-19 test after a local barber tested positive.
