COVID-19 UPDATE | Namibia records 1 403 new cases and 27 deaths

A 121-year-old senior citizen is among the 1 403 cases of corona virus reported yesterday. The Ministry of Health is concerned with the rise in positive cases, saying active transmission remains high. Active cases as of yesterday were 12 743. Windhoek remains the highest contributer to the national Covid 19 cases at 568 or 40%. The Erongo Region recorded 164 cases with 86 from Walvis Bay, the highest in the region. The Kavango East had 125 cases with 81 from Rundu and 44 from Andara. The ||Karas Region recorded 134 cases with 53 coming from Keetmanshoop, 50 from Luderitz and 31 from Karasburg. Oshana Region recorded 102 cases all from Oshakati. 27 deaths were recorded yesterday, 14 coming from the three towns in isolation - Windhoek 10 and two each from Okahandja and Rehoboth. 20 of those who died were not inoculated and the vaccination status of the remaining seven is not known. 19 851 are now fully vaccinated with two doses and 104 103 with first doses of either Aztra Zeneca and Sinopharm.
