Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr Kalumbi Shangula says this week has seen an increase in Coronavirus cases mostly caused by crowded facilities. The minister said this during the daily update at the COVID-19 Communication Centre on Friday. Dr Shangula says school hostels, correctional facilities and police holding cells provide conducive environments for the transmission of communicable diseases. He says Namibians in the aforementioned environments should protect themselves to prevent more cases. Out of a total of 1 021 results received from labs, 95 samples tested positive for the Coronavirus. Hardap Region topped the list of new infections today with 35 positive cases. Khomas Region followed, with 33 infections. The Erongo Region still continues to report a significant drop in new cases, with only eight cases reported today. Oshana recorded seven new infections and //Kharas only four. Both Oshikoto and Ohangwena tallied three new cases each while Omaheke and Zambezi confirmed one case each. The country also reported 87 new recoveries. Dr Shangula says it's encouraging how the country keeps observing a downward trend in cases. He advises all Namibians to assist in maintaining the status quo.
