Johnny Mame from Rundu appeared in Francistown Magistrates’ Court on charges of tampering with a motor vehicle believed to be part of a cross-border car theft racket.

Prosecutor Sesafeleng Dijeng said the vehicle had two different registration numbers during transit from South Africa to Namibia.

Botswana Police spokesperson Near Bagali said:
“We are doing everything to nip vehicle smuggling in the bud. We will not allow criminals to use Botswana as a transit route.”

Namibian Police reported over 258 vehicles smuggled into Angola in 2024, raising concerns about cross-border crime syndicates.
