Finance Ministry calls importers of ethanol to register within three months

The Ministry of Finance has urged all importers of ethyl alcohol to register with the Directorate of Customs and Excise within the next three months. It says in a public notice that the directorate has seen an influx of ethyl alcohol (ethanol) imports, mainly for the production of COVID-19 related products. The notice says all importers, manufacturers and distributors of ethanol should pay excise duties and be classified under the Harmonised System Code Heading 2207 or Tariff Item 104-21-01/03. The Ministry further warns that misclassification of ethanol products will meet with penalties and companies should comply and register. The notice further says all importers, manufactures and distributors should submit proof of registration with the trade or BIPA, proof of physical address, description of goods to be manufactured, details of licensed suppliers and comprehensive manufacturing process of the respective product. -NAMPA
