Fishcor's bank account unfrozen

Fishcor has announced that the Bank of Namibia has unfrozen its bank account, which was put on ice, on suspicion of the violation of the Exchange Control Act. The chairman of the temporary board of Fishcor, Mihe Heinrich Gaomab II, welcomed the development saying that the company can now attend to its urgent and pressing financial and operational matters. Fishcor accounts were frozen as part of a wider investigation into what has become known as the Fishrot corruption scandal. The former CEO of Fishcor, Mike Nghipunya, is also a suspect in the fishrot case and has been fired from his job in November last year. Nghipunya is charged with corruption and money laundering among others, and remain in Police custody awaiting trial with other Fishrot accused. Gaomab II said the account was unfrozen because of the full cooperation and information discovery provided by Fishcor to the Bank of Namibia investigation. The chairperson said that it has full confidence in the integrity of the Bank of Namibia investigation, adding that Fishcor will continue to cooperate with the probe into the accounts associated with the company.
