Health Minister calls for more care and vigilance

Health and Social Services Minister Dr Kalumbi Shangula has reiterated his call for more care and vigilance, as many people continue to behave as if the novel corona virus is no longer a global health crisis. Dr Shangula warned that this behaviour is dangerous as COVID-19 positive cases continue to increase and are now fast spreading to other parts of the country. Seventy-four new positive cases were recorded today. For the past four months, countries have been curbing the spread of COVID-19, which is now becoming a bottleneck to the health sector as well as affecting economies around the globe. Locally, preventative measures and interventions implemented have to a large extend been effective in curbing the spread of the pandemic.. However, in recent weeks, Dr Shangula says, there have been a worrying upsurge, in the number of confirmed cases. Shangula said, "the fact is, the virus is here and is continuing to spread and it spreads when people move and interact, it spreads when people fail to wear face masks or to wash and sanitise hands". Walvis Bay continues to be the epicenter of COVID-19 with 56 cases recorded today. Windhoek today recorded four cases. Two of the cases are from Oshana, while Kavango East Region also recorded its first positive two cases, and //Kharas also two. Oshikoto and Otjozondjupa each recorded one case. Most of the cases are local transmissions as they do not have any travel record history.
