The Ministry of Home Affairs has temporarily suspended the registration of identification cards due to the increasing number of COVID-19 cases within the ministry. In a media release, the ministry's Executive Director Etienne Maritz said the temporary suspension is expected to last for two weeks starting from tomorrow until the 2nd of July. The Ministry further says due to manual fingerprint capturing during the registration process, physical contact between the clients and staff which cannot be avoided defies the protocol of social distancing. The Ministry thus appeals to members of the public to delay the non-urgent application of documents, especially ID cards.
