The Ministry of Industrialisation and Trade has warned the public against a scam circulating on social media under the title “IMPORTANT ANNOUNCE TO ENTREPRENEUR” targeting entrepreneurs and SMEs in need of financial assistance and grants, with the photo of Minister, Lucia Iipumbu. The post, which is circulating on social media platforms, states that “The Ministry of Industrialisation and Trade has established a partnership with the World Bank African Development Agency and Africa Trade and Investment Forum to support SMEs by providing financial assistance/grants to help them recover from the global economic crisis. Interested individual/Companies/Business entities who wish to be considered for this crucial funding programme are invited”. The post further provides a link for entrepreneurs to learn more about the promised financial assistance and apply for the grants on offer. The MIT has distanced itself from this message and cautioned the public to avoid opening the link provided as well as not to circulate the notice any further as it may cause unnecessary expectations from the members of the public and bear risk(s) and irreversible damages. The public is urged to first verify the authenticity of Notices that are being claimed to be from this Ministry through its Corporate Communication Subdivision on 061 – 2837223 or email pro@mit.gov.na
