Industry ready to resume Tourism Revival Initiative

The chief executive officer (CEO) of the Hospitality Association of Namibia (HAN) says they are ready to resume with the Tourism Revival Initiative launched last October. HAN CEO, Gitta Paetzold says the initiative can give the tourism industry a new lease of life after COVID-19 regulations kept travellers out of the country. In October, November, and early December, quite a few tourists travelled to Namibia. She says Eurowings flew to Namibia four-times a week in March last year and five-times a week by April before cases spiked in Europe. Paetzold says Namibia being declared high-risk on the second of December last year saw tourists cancelling their trips. But she says South Africa and Botswana have opened and Germany does not consider Namibia high-risk as of this month. She says Germany's constant change of laws, Air Namibia's liquidation and the general consumer confidence in Europe could mean a gradual rebound of tourism this year. The HAN leader says Eurowings and Ethiopian Airlines can be relied on to still fly visitors into Namibia.
