Learners at the Jan Mohr Secondary School in Windhoek demonstrated this morning in protest against a teacher who allegedly sodomized a pupil. In 2013, the same teacher who was then a football coach and hostel supervisor allegedly raped a 17-year-old. The teacher, according to media reports at the time, was suspended and reinstated later. Seven years down the line, the education authorities are dealing with the same dilemma. The 53-year-old teacher is again accused of allegedly raping a 19-year-old learner at the school. Acting spokesperson at the Ministry of Education Arts and Culture, Timotheus Mutambo, confirmed the incident to NBC News. Mutambo says, the /Khomas regional office is dealing with the matter and they are currently waiting on a preliminary report. In the meantime, school social workers are on the ground providing counselling and necessary support to the learners. Nampol spokesperson Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi also confirmed the incident to NBC. The alleged sodomy case was only reported to the police yesterday, although it happened on Wednesday, Shikwambi said.
