Kunene Governor launches servicing of 68 plots at Outjo

Kunene Governor Marius Sheya has launched the servicing of 35 000 square metre land at Outjo, where 68 houses will be built. The Shack Dwellers Federation of Namibia's Regional Facilitator, Sibila Eibes, told Nampa news agency that the land had been cleared and that the servicing started on Saturday. Eibes said the Federation's Outjo Branch purchased the land in Extension Six in 2013 for less than N$4 per square metre, using member contributions. The 68 plots will measure between 300 and 470 square metres. The Federation will first dig the trenches where members can lay down water and sewage pipes before the actual construction starts. Established in 2008, the branch now has 640 members, most of whom are unemployed women. Eibes said a member is required to have total commitment to the federation and a once-off contribution of N$800. Outjo Mayor Samuel !Oe-Amseb pledged that the council will avail more land in future, calling on residents to join the federation.
