Lack of mortuary staff holds up burials

Chaos broke out at the State Mortuary at Windhoek's Central Hospital after miscommunication of burial times of people who died of COVID-19. Five families gathered at the mortuary as early as 07h00 to view the bodies and be allowed to receive the remains of their loved ones for burial as per COVID-19 burial procedures. However, upon arrival, they were told that they had to wait until 14h00 because of a lack of available staff at the mortuary. This angered the families as they already made burial and travel arrangements before curfew. The situation was later resolved and teams were called in to proceed with burial as from 10h00.
