The Mafwe Traditional Authority in the Zambezi Region has reacted angrily over ongoing demands by the Hambukushu tribe to turn part of Bwabwata National Park into human settlement areas. Litunga George Simasiku Mamili the seventh claimed Bwabwata was never part of Kavango East, and only became part of that region after the Delimitation Commission demarcated boundaries in the 90s. In the latest, petition handed over to the Parliamentary Standing Committee, the Hambukushu tribe called on the government to revisit its decision of 1999, prohibiting communities from owning cattle in the area, as well as declaring Bwabwate a national park.
