Namibia records 169 COVID-19 recoveries

Namibia, while recording 130 new COVID-19 cases, today announced a record number of 169 recoveries. Sixty-two of the cases are from the Khomas Region while 50 are recorded in Erongo. The highest recoveries of 75 are from the Erongo Region, followed by Otjozondjupa with 58 recoveries. However, Health Minister, Dr Kalumbi Shangula says the figures are still a cause for concern, as the latest figures bring the total of confirmed cases to 6 160. The number of health workers infections is also increasing. "Of the confirmed cases we recorded 229 health care workers who had been infected, of which 70% are in public and 30% are from the private sector," said Shangula. He called on employers in the health sector to ensure a conducive environment for the workers as they are at high risk of being infected The active cases are now 3 371 with 2 732. One more person died of COVID-19 in the Kavango East Region, bringing the total to 57 .
