A 51-year-old soldier stationed at the Grootfontein base, Ignatius Andreas Mwira, died as a result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident at Grootfontein. Otjozondjupa Police spokesperson, warrant officer Maureen Mbeha said Mwira's sedan collided with a Toyota pickup at 17h00 on Saturday. The bakkie burst into flames upon impact. Mbeha said the driver of the bakkie and a passenger in Mwira's car were both transferred to a hospital in Windhoek. They are both in critical condition. Mwira died in the ambulance. A case of culpable homicide has been registered with the Grootfontien police. The deceased's next of kin have been informed.
