Neckartal Dam expected to overflow from midnight

The head of communications at NamWater, Johannes Shigwedha has announced that the Neckartal Dam is approaching its full supply level and the water will start flowing over the spillway. “We estimate it to start spilling towards midnight, therefore, we are cautioning the nation, especially people living in the vicinity of the Fish River, to expect possible flow in the river downstream of the Neckartal,” said Shigwedha. Based on the existing data, the overflow rate will approximately be 1100 cubic metres per second. The dam was 96% full at noon today and is now 98% full. The dam, which was completed in 2018, has a capacity of about 960 million cubic metres and is located in the Berseba Constituency. It is the largest water storage dam in Namibia. NamWater will allow members of the public to view the overflow from 10h00 to 17h00 tomorrow.
